Maxson

I finally finished the drawing my third time lapse video will be of. My husband will be putting together the time lapse tomorrow. This one is of my youngest, my only boy, Maxson, holding Daddy's hand. This is one of my favorite pictures I've taken of him, and a challenge to draw. The drawing took me 8 hours. I used charcoal, although I think I could have gotten a little better detail with graphite with this one. I'm still happy with it.

Lovely photo and drawing. I'm not sure which I like best -- both have something unique to say to the viewer.

That time lapse is awesome! I would have thought you'd have to start with his little face but that you knew how to gauge the length of his little arm from his daddy's hand is just too cool to watch. This is beautiful I love the curls and by golly, you got them captured too!

:-) thanks. I start all my drawings from the left because I'm right handed and I'll smear it if I start anywhere else.

I remember that photo of your boy, I wondered if you were going to do a drawing Tess. I start drawing from the right and go left for the same reason, I'm left handed. lol

You have a beautiful family and it is good to record them as they grow. These drawings will be a sign of love and history to cherish always.

Thank you. I plan on doing drawings of all of my favorite pictures of my kids and more as they grow.

My mom had stopped by for dinner the other night and told me her method for drawing. I don't remember ever seeing my mom draw, I never knew how she did it, so I just did what worked for me and adapted my methods overcoming little things here and there. I'm going to try her method with the drawing I'll be doing tomorrow. She uses dots instead of a grid. Her style is more realistic than mine. You almost can't tell if it's a black and white photograph or a drawing she did when you look at it. I wish she'd get back into it again.

That is a very good method.

The method I use is a pointed measuring stick like a chop stick and make measure marks to create the contour of the shapes and internal cross contour lines. I can measure a whole or a part of photo image or a live model that way.

With the stick you can evaluate size, compare length and width, check distance of placement and direction with out making any marks ognthe paper but dots.

I have always liked my shading to go in one direction also, so that blending all the values is easy to do over large areas.

My favortie is graphite pencil and litho crayon to draw with. I have also tried silverpoint which was fun and challenging.
